Elzette Henshilwood is a city enthusiast and eternal student. She embraces the quest for solutions to the many urban challenges we face daily. Whether this is through her work as a professional urban planner, or through collaborating with other built environment professionals to study complex urban phenomena - she undertakes it with rigour, passion and curiosity. In particular, she tries to unearth bottom-up responses that are not always visible nor celebrated, but make a positive impact on the lives of urban dwellers. She sees sustainability not as a verb, but as a continuous process of improving the way in which we build, retrofit and perceive cities in order to reduce its contribution to climate change, natural resource use and environmental degradation.
